No holes barred...
Digital music sales at 7Digital have soared 188% since the removal of DRM.
The digital music delivery company said year-on-year sales are up 188% for 2007 due to 'the removal of DRM and availability of high-quality 320kbps format MP3 tracks' to sell its music without DRM on Amazon.
Ben Drury, MD of 7Digital and deputy chairman of the Entertainment Retail Association, said, "2008 is set to be the year DRM is gone for good. We've already seen all four majors make efforts to offer DRM-free downloads and by the summer DRM will likely be resigned to the history books."
EMI was the first record label to announce that it would offer its catalogue without DRM in April last year. Universal followed suit with a DRM-free trial while SonyBMG is dropping DRM later this month and Warner has agreed
